The Islanders head across to New York City on Wednesday night as they face off against the Rangers at MSG.
The Isles look to continue their recent dominance over their cross town rivals as the two sides face off at MSG on Wednesday night. The Islanders head into this one with a 7-1 record against the Blue Shirts in their last 8 contests but they have struggled against the league’s best home teams and so far the Rangers have been very good when playing on home ice. The Islanders are still sorting out a new identity in life after John Tavares but so far they are looking like a more than capable team who should be in the mix for a playoff spot by season’s end. Robin Lehner is expected to get the start in goal for the Isles as he will face off against Alex Georgiev who is the projected starter for the Rangers.
The Rangers meanwhile are one of the hottest teams in the NHL at the moment as they have won 6 in a row on home ice and are 8-2 in their last 10, however they have struggled against divisional foes so far this season. The Rangers are 1-6 in their last 7 games against teams in the Metro division and are a woeful 5-17 in their last 22 meetings with the Islanders but you can be sure they have had this one circled since the Islanders netted another victory when these sides met up last week.
The Islanders are 10-4 in their last 14 games against the Eastern Conference and 0-4 in their last 4 games on a Wednesday while the Rangers are 5-2 in their last 7 following a win and 6-20 in their last 26 after allowing 2 or fewer in their previous game. The Isles have owned this series lately but the Rangers are playing very well at the moment and at home they get the nod.
