The Rangers and Penguins meet up at MSG on Sunday in a pivotal Metropolitan match up between two playoff hopefuls.
The Pittsburgh Penguins head into New York on Sunday looking to cut into the deficit they face in the division standings as the Blue Shirts hold a four point cushion and possess home ice advantage but with a win tonight the Pens could move to within two points and make the race for a playoff spot down the stretch that much more exciting. The Pens have gone on a tear since the all-star break and are 8-2 in their last 10 contests while the Rangers are winners of three in a row including a 5-2 win on the road against the Canadiens last night which improved their mark to 5-3-2 in their last 10 games. Marc-Andre Fleury is expected to get the start in the Penguins crease while the Rangers will counter with Henrik Lundqvist who has been confirmed as the team’s starter today.
The Rangers continue to play like one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference and while their recent surge has been overlooked thanks to the Penguins’ run they are heating up at the right moment and could be a very tough out come playoff time. New York is missing a bit of the swagger we have come to expect from them over the last few seasons but they still have a very good group and of course are backstopped by one of the league’s best goaltender in Lundqvist. The Rangers are 25-8-3 at home this season while the Pens are 18-14-4 on the road which should set up a very intriguing matchup and while the value is on the road team here I think the Rangers get it done on home ice in a very exciting contest.
