The San Jose Sharks look to stay undefeated as they head into Madison Square Garden to face off against the New York Rangers.
The Sharks take to the road looking to build on their 2-0 record as they face off against the New York Rangers who have split their first two games, and while it is a light schedule on the ice on Monday night, this one is certainly a marquee show down. The Sharks are coming off an impressive season where they fell to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Stanley Cup final but they return a number of their important pieces and should be in the mix once again this season as they are very deep across the board and match up well with most teams in the Western Conference. San Jose will turn to Martin Jones in this one who has been impressive so far as he will take on Henrik Lundqvist who has been one of the best goaltenders in the NHL over the last 10 years and will be a tough out for teams again this season.
The Rangers meanwhile are as talented as they come in the Eastern Conference but not too many people are talking about them as a Cup contender this year as there are other emerging teams in their division, including the Penguins, Islanders, and Capitals. New York has fallen off a bit over the last couple of seasons but they shouldn’t be taken lightly and we saw them in great form against the Isles on opening night and if they can get a victory at home here against one of the league’s top teams I think we will hear the whispers get louder about this team still being one of the best in the Eastern Conference.
The Sharks are 23-11 in their last 34 road games and 1-4 in their last five Monday games while the Rangers are 14-3 in their last 17 Monday games and 1-4 in their last five overall. The Sharks are getting plus value here and as the better team I think they get it done and give us some extra cash as well.
