The Sharks head into MSG on Monday night look to shake off their first loss of the season while the home side looks to get back in the win column after an overtime loss over the weekend.
San Jose ripped off four straight wins before getting trounced by the Islanders in Brooklyn on Saturday and they'll look to salvage a New York split with a victory against a Rangers team who has had trouble scoring goals to start the year. The Sharks are known to be one of the streakiest teams in the league for better or worse and it always scares me when they lose a game because I have no confidence in them getting back no track as they seem to go on double digit losing skids once they get inside their own heads. However, they have a ton of veteran leadership on this team and a coaching staff that is still novel among the players that have been their a while so a culture change is likely imminent and how they handle adversity will be interesting to see. Martin Jones gets the call as he will go up against Henrik Lundqvist.
The Rangers are coming off a loss of their own on Sunday after dropping a 2-1 decision against the New Jersey Devils and now they must regroup to get ready for the Sharks on Monday. New York is expected to be in contention for the Metro division once again this season but they need to avoid a slow start to the year that we saw last season as there are too many good teams in the East they are competing with and to fall behind in the division isn't something they want to have happen. This is a good New York team that should be able to respond after a home loss but I am on the road team here as San Jose to me is getting a great price in a game that is a toss up and with the way Jones is playing right now it is hard to bet against him.
