The Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers meet Saturday in NHL action at Madison Square Garden.
The Tampa Bay Lightning look for a big road win after splitting their last six games. The Tampa Bay Lightning are averaging 3.9 goals per game and are scoring on 29.6 percent of their power play opportunities. Brayden Point leads Tampa Bay with 30 goals, Nikita Kucherov has 57 assists and Steven Stamkos has 155 shots on goal. Defensively, the Tampa Bay Lightning are allowing 2.8 goals per game and are killing 84.2 percent of their opponents power plays. Andrei Vasilevskiy has given up 75 goals on 950 shots faced and Louis Domingue has allowed 60 goals on 629 shots. The Tampa Bay Lightning have allowed three or more goals in five of their last seven games.
The New York Rangers look to stay hot after winning five of their last seven games. The New York Rangers are averaging 2.8 goals per game and are scoring on 21.1 percent of their power play opportunities. Chris Kreider leads New York with 23 goals, Mika Zibanejad has 28 assists and Kevin Hayes has 96 shots on goal. Defensively, the New York Rangers are allowing 3.3 goals per game and are killing 76.6 percent of their opponents power plays. Henrik Lundqvist has given up 107 goals on 1,157 shots faced and Alexandar Georgiev has allowed 49 goals on 474 shots. The New York Rangers have allowed three or less goals in each of their last five games.
The Lightning are 10-4 in their last 14 road games, 7-1 in their last 8 Saturday games and 40-15 in their last 55 overall. The Rangers are 3-8 in their last 11 home games, 4-1 in their last 5 Saturday games and 4-1 in their last 5 overall. The Lightning are 8-3 in the last 11 meetings in New York and 4-1 in the last 5 meetings. The over is 16-7-1 in Rangers last 24 overall. The under is 4-1 in Lightning last 5 overall.
The Tampa Bay Lightning should obviously be favored in this game given they're the best team in the league and the Rangers are full of hits and misses. However, I'm not laying this much juice on the road with the Rangers showing recent signs of life. Instead, I'll side with the over. The over has been an extremely popular trend for the Rangers these last couple of months and each of the last three meetings between the Lightning and Rangers have produced at least eight goals. In fact, those last three meetings are averaging nine goals. As a way to avoid the steep price with Tampa Bay on the road, I'll side with the over 6.5 goals.
