Wednesday NHL action features the New York Rangers hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The surging Tampa Bay Lightning ran their winning streak to nine games with a 4-3 SO victory against the visiting LA Kings on Monday. The Kings received third period goals from Alex Iafallo, Jonny Brodzinski and Austin Wagner. Wagner also assisted Jack Campbell absorbed the loss with 31 stops.
Brayden Point, Anthony Cirelli and JT Miller scored for the Lightning with Victor Hedman scoring the deciding goal in the shootout. Steven Stamkos added a pair of helpers for Tampa Bay who received 30 saves from Andrei Vasilevskiy.
The New York Rangers have alternated wins and losses for three weeks and that trend continued in a 6-5 OT loss at Washington on Sunday. Brady Skjei led New York with a pair of goals with Chris Kreider, Jimmy Vesey and Vladislav Namestnikov lighting the lamp. Mika Zibanejad gave the Rangers a pair of helpers and Henrik Lundqvist gave up all six goals on 35 shots.
Nicklas Backstrom tallied twice for Washington with Michal Kempny, Tom Wilson and Nic Dowd also scoring. Evgeny Kuznetsov netted the overtime winner for the Capitals and Pheonix Copley gave up five goals on 31 shots to pick up the win.
Lightning are 37-15 in their last 52 vs. Metropolitan and Lightning are 44-19 in their last 63 games as a road favorite and Lightning are 38-17 in their last 55 road games.
Rangers are 4-1 in their last 5 vs. Atlantic and Rangers are 3-8 in their last 11 games as a home underdog and Rangers are 3-8 in their last 11 games playing on 2 days rest.
Lightning are 9-3 in the last 12 meetings in New York and favorite is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings and Lightning are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.
Despite their near collapse against the Kings, Tampa Bay is the best team in hockey. They won’t win every game so I would go small on them here…
