The Tampa Bay Lightning look to retake to spot in the Atlantic division with a road win against the New York Rangers at MSG on Friday night.
The Lighting lost a pivotal game in Boston last night to relinquish top spot in the Atlantic division but they get a chance at redemption on Friday as they face off against the New York Rangers who have had one of the more disappointing seasons in the league. Tampa Bay brings the league’s best offense into the Big Apple looking to send Henrik Lundqvist and company to yet another home loss and with the Bolts dominating the back end of their double headers of late and their 5-2 stretch in their last seven road games they will likely be big time favourites once we near close to puck drop. The Bolts are also 10-4 in their last 14 against the Eastern Conference and are 7-3 in their last 10 meetings against the Rangers who will look to snap out of a 3-13 stretch against Eastern Conference opponents.
The Rangers have been better on home ice of late as they are 5-1 in their last six games at Madison Square Garden but their effort against the Atlantic division this season has been a huge downfall as they are 1-7 in their last eight. The Rangers need to focus their energy in the defensive zone in this game as Tampa’s offense has been incredibly tough to slow down and with the over hitting in 11 of Tampa Bay’s last 13 contests and the team coming off a 4-2 loss last night in Boston you can be sure they will be out to make amends in this one.
The Lightning are 7-3 in their last 10 against a team with a losing record and are a modest 3-8 in their last 11 Friday games while the Blue Shirts are 1-5 in their last six overall and 4-9 in their last 13 games playing on one day’s rest. Tampa needs to win here to stay in the hunt for top spot in the division and after a sluggish effort yesterday I think they bounce back in a big way here.
