The Washington Capitals have forged a four game winning streak after downing visiting Detroit 3-1 on Friday. The Red Wings received a first period tally from Andreas Athanasiou with Jonathan Bernier allowing three goals on 20 shots.
Tom Wilson scored in the second for Washington with Michael Kempny and Alex Ovechkin lighting the lamp in the third. Ovechkin and Wilson also logged assists and Braden Holtby recorded 31 saves to get the win for the Capitals.
The surging New York Rangers had won eight of ten before the offense went ice cold in a 4-0 loss at Philadelphia on Friday. New York ran in to a hot goalie but Henrik Lundqvist was peppered with 45 shots with three goals allowed to absorb the loss.
Sean Couturier paced the Philadelphia attack with a pair of goals with Jordan Weal and Travis Konecny also reaching the scoring column. Konecny assisted twice and Claude Giroux posted three helpers while Calvin Pickard picked up the win for Philadelphia with 31 stops.
