The Capitals head into Madison Square Garden on Sunday looking to make a statement against the Rangers as these two bitter rivals clash in what should be an exciting show down.
The Washington Capitals head into New York looking to prove they are worthy of being division leaders in the Metro and with the way they have played this season it is very tough to argue that they are not only the best team in the division but could very well be the best in the NHL. The Caps are 23-6-2 this season, have won four games in a row, and are 8-1-1 in their last 10 overall putting them atop the Metro, the Eastern Conference, and just two back of the Stars for the best record in hockey. Washington hockey success overt he years has become synonymous with high octane offense but this season is different as the Caps have one of the league's best goaltenders and the front runner for the Vezina right now in Braden Holtby. The Caps back stopper has been ridiculous thus far and has a GAA under 1.90 and is lighting the league up right now. He gets a chance to prove his worth on the road against the Rangers who will counter with their own work horse in Henrik Lundqvist.
The Rangers are on a bit of a slide right now and the latest chapter occurred on the road in Winnipeg as they were trounced by the Jets and now face an uphill battle despite returning home. The Blue Shirts are 3-5-2 in their last 10 but still sit in second place in the Metro, trailing the Capitals by six points but have also played three more games than Washington which makes this game that much more important for New York. This is shaping up to be an excellent show down between two of the league's very best and while I am a huge fan of Holtby and this Washington Capitals team I do think this is an absolute must win for the psyche of the team right now and I think in the end they will get enough to grab two points.
