Sunday NHL action pits the Washington Capitals against the New York Rangers.

The Washington Capitals have heated up with wins in five of six after downing the New York Islanders 3-1 on Friday. Tom Kuhnhackl scored unassisted for the Islanders in the first and Thomas Greiss took the loss with two goals given up on 28 shots.

Jakub Vrana, Alex Ovechkin and TJ Oshie scored third period goals for the Capitals. Oshie also had an assist and Braden Holtby picked up the win with a 20 save performance.

The New York Rangers are in a bit of a funk with losses in four of five following a 4-2 loss to visiting Montreal on Friday. Vladimir Namestnikov and Brendan Lemieux lit the lamp for New York. Brady Skjei logged a pair of helpers and Henrik Lundqvist allowed three goals on 35 shots to get the loss for the Rangers.

Joel Armia paced the Canadiens offense with a hat trick with Bredan Gallagher also finding the back of the net. Montreal saw points from 12 players and Carey Price picked up the win with two goals allowed on 30 shots.

Capitals are 9-4 in their last 13 vs. Metropolitan and Capitals are 141-66 in their last 207 games playing on 1 days rest and Capitals are 19-9 in their last 28 games following a win.
