The Capitals look to use home ice to their advantage and finish off the series with the New York Rangers while the road side can force a deciding game seven back at home with a win tonight.
The New York Rangers forced overtime with a few minutes remaining and then scored the game winner in the extra session sending the MSG crowd into hysterics and keeping their Cup aspirations intact but now they have to repeat the feat on the road at the Verizon Center this evening. The Rangers could very well be on day two of their offseason at this point as the Caps were the better team from start to finish in game four but a bounce their way and an overtime marker made the difference and if they're going to extend the series they'll need to do a better job of getting pucks at Braden Holtby who has been a monster in this series so far for the Caps.
The Capitals were the underdogs coming into this series but with a 3-2 lead heading back to the Verizon Center they are in a great place and have to win just one of their next two in order to advance to the Eastern Conference finals. Washington has been a new brand this season under Barry Trotz and the difference maker in these playoffs has been Braden Holtby who has outplayed Henrik Lundqvist to this point and if he is dialed in once again he should be in a great spot to help propel his team to the next round. These two teams know each other all too well and while the Rangers got the best of Washington in a game where the Caps should have won I think we see the home side put things to rest tonight and advance to the Eastern Conference final.
