The Capitals look to take a 3-1 series lead while the Rangers can salvage a split and head home tied a two games apiece.
The New York Rangers couldn’t find a way to solve Braden Holtby in game three on Monday as the home side skated to a 1-0 victory that only occurred off of a bad bounce behind the net. The Rangers have played in one goal games throughout most of these playoffs so they're never really out of a game but at the same time they haven't been blowing teams out of the water and now with their offense running dry they could be in trouble heading into game four in Washington who seems to be piecing things together at the right time. Henrik Lundqvist continues to be a rock at the back for New York and he was excellent once again on Monday but sometimes it isn't enough if the other two facets of your game are slacking and for New York they know they need a big effort out of their top goal scorer in Rick Nash tonight if they're going to keep their Cup chances intact.
The Capitals were given little to not shot at winning this series against the New York Rangers but they're now just two wins away from finally reaching the third round of the playoffs and a berth in the Eastern Conference final. The Caps are under new direction this year as Barry Trotz joined the mix after getting let go by the Nashville Predators and I think Alex Ovechkin and the re st of the team has responded nicely to the new bench boss and as such they are in a good position here against the Rangers as their team defense is much improved and his rivaled that of the Rangers so far in this series. While I think the Caps will win the series I do think New York replies in this one in another low scoring affair as I think they do enough to pull even and head back to MSG with the lead.
