The NHL is off and running today, as there are a whopping 12 games on the schedule tonight, starting at 7:00 PM ET. Before we get into that heavy set, let’s check into some of the hot-topic players and stats out there in the headlines. Here’s the latest.
Kyle Okposo, RW, NY Islanders: This was a highly-anticipated matchup, but it ended up being a one-sided victory--that is, after a come-from-behind effort. The Isles took a 6-3 win over the Penguins in New York last night, thanks to Okposo’s breakout four-goal evening. John Tavares was the facilitator with three assists.
On the other side, Sidney Crosby had a good statistical night on two goals and a helper of his own.
The win moves the Isles to 30-13-1 on the season.
Ryan Miller, G, Vancouver Canucks: Now let’s check out the league’s only shutout last night. Miller goose-egged the Hurricanes at PNC Arena last night, bagging 28 saves in the 3-0 victory. It was Miller’s second consecutive shutout, both coming on the road.
With the win, Vancouver improves to 25-15-3 on the season, while the ‘Canes fall to 14-25-5.
Henrik Lundqvist, G, New York Rangers: The Rangers needed a win last night against the Blue Jackets so they could get back on track after two consecutive losses. That’s exactly what they got, too. Lundqvist bagged 35 saves on 36 shots in the 2-1 victory in Columbus. His counterpart, Sergei Bobrovsky, put up 24 saves of his own.
The Rangers improve to 25-13-4 on the year and hand Columbus their fourth loss in a row.
Hampus Lindholm, D, Anahiem Ducks: The Ducks got some big efforts from across the board last night against the Devils at Honda Center, and it led to a 5-1 victory.
Lindholm posted a goal and an assist, while Jakob Silfverberg put up two scores of his own. The Ducks are now 29-10-6 on the year and have beaten their opponents 9-1 over the past two games.
