We’ve got a pretty good day of NHL hockey coming up, as there are seven games on the schedule. The action starts this afternoon, but before we get going let’s take our daily look around the league and check out some of the headlines out there right now.
Derek Stepan, C, New York Rangers: The Rangers looked like a team to be reckoned with yesterday in the early game, posting a 5-2 road win against the Penguins at Consol Energy Center. They’re now tied for third in the division with the Caps.
Stepan posted two goals in the victory, while Rick Nash had two scores of his own. Derick Brassard finished with a goal and an assist.
Cody Eakin, C, Dallas Stars: The Stars-Blackhawks game had no shortage of scoring, as it ended with a 6-3 final tally. The Stars were on the winning end of this battle at United Center. Eakin put up two goals and an assist, while Tyler Seguin added a goal and a helper of his own.
Dallas is now 21-17-7, while the Blackhawks fall to 28-15-2.
Bryan Little, C, Winnipeg Jets: Little got to play the hero for the Jets yesterday, scoring in the first period and again in the shootout to give Winnipeg a 4-3 victory over the Coyotes. Arizona fought valiantly in this one, coming back from a 3-1 deficit in the third to put up two goals in a span of 2:49.
The Jets have won four straight games and five of their past six.
Henrik Zetterberg, LW, Detroit Red Wings: Zetterberg had a memorable night against the Sabres at Joe Louis Arena yesterday. He put up three goals and an assist for his sixth career hat trick in the 6-4 win, helping Detroit to spark a rally after trailing 3-0 after the first period.
