We’re continuing a heavy run of games in the NHL today, with 10 matchups on the schedule. The action gets started at 1:00 PM ET, so we don’t have much time to get settled in before those pucks drop. Let’s take a look at some of the notable players out there in the meantime.
Roberto Luongo, G, Florida Panthers: Luongo posted another nice game in Buffalo last night, logging a shutout on 30 saves in a 2-0 victory over the Sabres. He’s now got three straight shutouts in Buffalo.
Brad Boyes and Nick Bjugstad both had goals for the Panthers here.
As for Luongo, he now has 68 career shutouts, which is good enough for 13th place on the NHL’s all-time list.
Michael Bournival, LW, Montreal Canadiens: The Canadiens got some pretty good efforts from a core group of players last night against the Devils, and were able to come away with a 4-2 victory in Jersey.
Bournival managed a pair of goals, while defenseman P.K. Subban provided a trio of assists. Montreal is now 25-11-2 on the year and has eight victories in the last nine games.
Meanwhile, the Devils fall to 13-20-7.
Sidney Crosby, C, Pittsburgh Penguins: Crosby was on point last night against the Lightning, facilitating his teammates with four assists in a 6-3 victory. Steve Downie returned to the team following a bout of the mumps and provided two goals on three shots. Andrew Ebbett added a goal and an assist.
Pittsburgh is now 24-9-5 on the year and passes Tampa in the East standings.
Matt Beleskey, LW, Anaheim Ducks: This was a tight game, but the Ducks ended up taking a win 4-3 against the Blues on Beleskey’s goal in the third. He also had an assist. Sami Vatanen would add a pair of assists.
Beleskey now has 16 goals on the year, which leads the team. The Ducks are 25-9-6 thus far.
