There are a whopping 12 games happening in the NHL tonight, so hockey fans will have plenty of options when they sit in front of the TV in the coming hours. While we’re waiting, let’s use the downtime to check out some of the notable players out there in our daily wrap-up.
Kyle Turris, C, Ottawa Senators: Don’t look now, but the Senators are on a winning streak. They won their second in a row last night by a 6-2 margin over the Ducks, with Turris scoring once and assisting on another. Mike Hoffman also had a pair of goals in the win, which brings Ottawa to 14-12-6.
On the other side, Ryan Getzlaf had both of Anaheim’s goals. With the loss, they fall to 22-8-5.
Brock Nelson, C, NY Islanders: In Detroit at Joe Louis Arena last night, the visiting team--in this case, that’s the Islanders--got a 2-1 win over the Red Wings. Brock Nelson scored and had an assist, as did Anders Lee. With the victory, New York moves to 22-10-0.
On the other side, Petr Mrazek made 22 saves on 23 shots in the tough-luck loss. Detroit’s now 17-8-8.
Michael Hutchinson, G, Winnipeg Jets: The Jets got a nice home win last night, taking a 2-1 margin over the visiting Bruins. Evander Kane and Mathieu Perreault had the goals, while Hutchinson held down the fort with 30 saves on 31 shots.
The win sends the Jets to 17-10-6, while the Bruins have just two wins in their past nine appearances, at 2-5-2.
Kari Lehtonen, G, Dallas Stars: Three out of the five games last night ended with a 2-1 score, and the Flames-Stars game was one of those. Lehtonen had 21 saves on 22 shots, while Jamie Benn posted a goal and an assist to help propel Dallas to 13-13-5.
The Flames are on a downward spiral right now at 17-15-2 and have lost seven straight in regulation.
