We’re coming out of a busy nine-game schedule in the NHL last night, and we’ve got a relatively tame five-matchup set going tonight. In the meantime, there’s plenty of hockey to talk about, so let’s take our daily look at the headlines and see who’s in the news.
David Perron, LW, Pittsburgh Penguins: The Penguins got past the Senators last night in a shootout, thanks to Perron. He scored the only goal of the SO to give Pittsburgh a 5-4 win.
The Penguins nearly blew this game; they had led by 3-0 and 4-2 before Ottawa stormed back.
Sidney Crosby also managed a pair of goals for the Penguins, who are now 32-15-8 on the season.
Alexander Steen, LW, St. Louis Blues: Steen put up a nice game last night, helping St. Louis to a road win over the Lightning. He had a goal and two assists in the 6-3 victory, while David Backes and T.J. Oshie each scored a goal and an assist of their own.
The Blues are now 36-15-4 and four points behind the Predators for the Central Division lead.
As for Tampa, they’re 34-17-6 and have two home losses in their last three appearances at Amalie Arena.
Kevin Hayes, RW, New York Rangers: The Rangers are starting off their road trip well, winning the first two games of a four-game set away from the Garden. Hayes helped them get No. 2 last night, logging a goal and two assists in the 6-3 win over the Avalanche at Pepsi Center.
Rick Nash also contributed with a goal and an assist, while Cam Talbot made 26 saves.
The Rangers are now 32-16-5 and in third in the Metropolitan.
Tyler Toffoli, C, Los Angeles Kings: Toffoli went nuts yesterday against the Flames at Staples Center, scoring three goals and adding an assist in the 5-3 victory. Jeff Carter added three assists of his own for the 24-18-12 Kings.
Toffoli has six goals in seven games now, helping the Kings to their first three-game winning streak since mid-November.
