There are two 11-game sets in the NHL this week, and today is one of them. We’ve got a lot of hockey to look forward to in the coming hours, but in the meantime there are quite a few players worth mentioning in today’s headlines. Let’s take a closer look at the stats in our daily wrap-up.
Mats Zuccarello, RW, New York Rangers: The Rangers headed into the third period against the Panthers last night tied 3-3, but broke through with three goals and a 6-3 finish. Zuccarello would post a score and a helper while Rick Nash tallied two goals. He now has 31 on the year. Henrik Lundqvist would finish with 33 saves.
That brings the Rangers to 29-15-4 on the season.
Joe Colborne, C, Calgary Flames: The Flames got a nice 5-2 victory over the Jets last night at Scotiabank Saddledome, with Colborne helping out on a pair of assists.
Raphael Diaz and Brandon Bolliq also scored their first goals in Calgary uniforms while Jonas Hiller held down the fort on 17 saves.
The Flames are now 28-20-3 on the year and move to third int eh Pacific. They’re now 12-0-0 when leading after two periods.
Joe Thornton, C, San Jose Sharks: This one was a barn-burner. The Sharks fell to the Oilers 5-4 after an exhausting 13-round shootout that ended on a Rob Klinkhammer score.
Thornton was instrumental in the game, posting three assists. Joe Pavelski also added a pair of goals and a helper of his own in the ultimately losing effort. On the other side, Jordan Eberle managed two goals in the win.
The Sharks move to 27-17-7 and the Oilers are now 14-28-9 on the season.
