The NHL will be pretty busy tonight, as there are nine games on the upcoming schedule. While we’re waiting for those pucks to hit the ice, let’s take our daily look at the key players and stats out there in the headlines. Here’s the latest from around the league.
Rick Nash, LW, New York Rangers: Nash has been just about unstoppable this season, and he’s putting up MVP-level numbers. He posted his 32nd goal of the season last night against the Bruins, and added an assist for good measure in the 3-2 victory at the Garden.
Cam Talbot made 18 saves filling in for an injured Henrik Lundqvist (neck) and helped send the Rangers to 30-15-4 on the season. They’ve won three in a row.
The loss sends the Bruins to 27-17-7; they were 8-1-1 in their previous 10 coming into this one.
Marc-Andre Fleury, G, Pittsburgh Penguins: The Penguins are now in first place in the Metropolitan again, thanks to a solid effort by Fleury last night against the Oilers. He posted 22 saves in the 2-0 shutout victory at Rexall Place.
Evgeni Malkin also helped out here, posting a goal in his first game back from a lower-body injury. He had been out the previous five.
Pittsburgh is now 29-14-8 on the season and one point ahead of the Islanders. On the other side, the Oilers are 14-29-9.
Jonas Hiller, G, Calgary Flames: Let’s finish up with another goalie today in Jonas Hiller. He posted 29 saves on 30 shots in the Flames’ 3-1 victory over the Sharks last night at Scotiabank Saddledome, sending the Flames to 29-20-3 on the year. They’re currently 4-1-0 in their six-game home-stand.
The Flames used a big second period here (three unanswered goals) to put away the Sharks, who fall to 27-18-7. They’ve lost two in a row.
