The NHL is backing things off a bit today with just five games on the upcoming schedule. Still, there are at least a few good matchups mixed in there, so with that said let’s take our daily look around the league and check out some of the notable players in the headlines.
Jake Allen, G, St. Louis Blues: The Blues got another strong defensive effort last night against the Sabres, and the result was a 3-0 victory at First Niagara Center. Allen posted 23 saves on 23 shots in the victory, with Jaskin, Tarasenko and Schwartz providing the offense.
The Blues have won seven straight and are 12-0-1 in their last 13 for a 34-13-4 record this season so far.
Jakob Silfverberg, RW, Anaheim Ducks: Silfverberg came up with a strong game last night in Nashville, helping the Ducks to a big 5-2 win over the Predators at Bridgestone Arena.
Silfverberg posted two goals, while Frederik Andersen managed 46 saves on 48 shots in the win. Anaheim moves to 34-12-6 and is now in first place overall in the league. Nashville is 33-12-6.
Tyler Johnson, D, Tampa Bay Lightning: The Lightning got some key offensive performances from a couple of important contributors last night against the Stars at American Airlines Center in Dallas, and the result was a 5-3 win.
Johnson posted a pair of goals, while Steven Stamkos managed a goal and an assist.
Tampa Bay moves to 33-15-5 with the victory, while Dallas falls to 23-20-8. They had the game tied 2-2 after falling behind 2-0, but couldn’t finish the rally.
Brent Burns, D, San Jose Sharks: The Sharks have been playing a lot of games in a short period of time lately, and they tinkered with their lineup last night against the Canucks to get some energy.
The result was a 5-1 win at Rogers Arena, with Burns providing two assists and four shots. Logan Couture had the exact same line.
The Sharks move to 28-18-7 and are in second in the Pacific right now.
