We’ve got a half-dozen NHL games to help us finish off the weekend today, and things will get started late this afternoon. In the meantime, let’s check out some of the notable players and stats out there in the headlines today.
Brandon Pirri, C, Florida Panthers: The Panthers certainly were busy at BB&T Center against the Sabres yesterday. The team sent 46 shots toward goalie Michal Neuvirth, scoring five times in a 5-3 win.
Pirri had two of those scores, both being power-play goals in the second. He was back on the ice after a nine-game absence due to an upper-body injury.
Tomas Tatar, LW, Detroit Red Wings: Tatar got to play the hero yesterday, breaking a tie game in the third period against the Predators at Bridgestone Arena. He put the game-winner in the net at the 9:06 mark, and the 4-3 score held.
Drew Miller also had a nice game, with a goal and an assist. On the other side, Matt Cullen posted a score and a helper as well.
The Red Wings finished off a successful six-game trip with the win, going 4-1-1 on the road.
Patrice Bergeron, C, Boston Bruins: There was a host of Bruins in last night’s game against the Coyotes at TD Garden whom we could recognize here today, but we’ll focus on Bergeron first. He logged a goal and an assist in the 4-1 win, leading five Boston players who had multi-point games.
Milan Lucic, Brad Marchand and Zdeno Chara each scored and had an assist, while Reilly Smith put up two helpers.
Boston is now 31-22-9 on the season.
Michael Del Zotto, D, Philadelphia Flyers: In last night’s nationally-televised primetime game, the Flyers got the best of the Rangers 4-2 in Philly. Del Zotto put up the decisive score, which was a short-handed goal in the third. Sean Couturier helped out with two assists.
The Flyers’ win was their first in five games against the Rangers, and brings them to 27-25-11 on the year.
