We’ve got a good-looking evening of NHL action ahead of us in the coming hours, as there are eight matchups on the schedule. In the meantime, let’s check out some of the notable players and situations out there across the league.
James Neal, LW, Nashville Predators: Neal got to play the hero--right after playing the goat--last night in a 2-1 win over the Coyotes in Glendale. He bagged the game-winning goal in overtime after getting pegged for a double-minor high-sticking that allowed the Coyotes to tie things up.
Nashville out-shot Arizona 7-0 in the extra period. Pekka Rinne posted 27 saves in the victory.
John Tavares, C, NY Islanders: Last night’s other game decided in OT came when the Islanders edged the Maple Leafs on a Tavares goal at 4:38 in the extra period. He also had an assist in the 4-3 win.
New York scored three times in the third, rallying from a 3-1 deficit to force the overtime. Michal Neuvirth recorded his first win with his new team on 22 saves as the Isles moved to 43-21-4 on the year.
Teemu Pulkkinen, LW, Detroit Red Wings: It’s not often we get to talk about Pulkkinen, but he certainly deserves it this morning. He posted a goal and an assist (as did Riley Sheahan and Pavel Datsyuk) last night in the Red Wings’ 5-2 win over Edmonton. Henrik Zetterberg had three assists and Jimmy Howard made 36 saves.
Detroit now moves to 37-17-11 on the year.
Eddie Lack, G, Vancouver Canucks: The Canucks opened up their home-stand last night with a win over the Ducks. Lack recorded 29 saves on 30 shots in the 2-1 victory at Rogers Arena, and it was the Canucks’ first regulation win over Anaheim in over two year.
Coming into this one, the Ducks were 26-0-7 in one-goal games, a streak Vancouver was able to halt.
