The NHL was really slow last night, but they’re making up for it with 11 matchups this evening. While we’re waiting on all those pucks to drop, let’s check out some of the notable players and stats out there in the headlines.
Tyler Bozak, C, Toronto Maple Leafs: Bozak got to play the hero last night against the Sabres, scoring both the game-tying goal in the third period and the game-winning tally in the shootout. The Leafs would edge Buffalo 4-3.
This victory ends a three-game losing streak, and Toronto is now 27-35-6. The Sabres, who are 19-42-6, have lost five in a row themselves.
Johnny Gaudreau, LW, Calgary Flames: Gaudreau reached the 50-point threshold last night, scoring both his 17th and 18th goals of the season. He’s the first Flames player to do that since 1996-97 (Jarome Iginla).
Meanwhile, the Flames scored five unanswered to take the Ducks 6-3 last night at Scotiabank Saddledome.
Calgary moves to 37-25-5 on the year, while the Ducks fall to 42-20-7.
Cam Talbot, G, New York Rangers: After a shaky beginning in relief of No. 1 goalie Henrik Lundqvist, Talbot has come around and is playing well recently. He recorded 28 saves in the Rangers win over the Capitals last night, with 16 of those coming in the third period alone.
The Rangers are now 42-17-7 overall and have won 12 of 15 overall. The team moved into first place in the Metropolitan Division with the victory.
