NHL News: Player News and Updates for 3/18/15

There was a ton of NHL hockey last night, which makes tonight’s three-game set look comparatively tame. Still, there’s plenty to talk about this morning as we visit with our daily check-up. Let’s see who’s in the news right now.

Cory Schneider, G, New Jersey Devils: Schneider was able to record a shutout last night against the Penguins, posting 35 saves in a 2-0 victory. Jacob Josefson and Adam Henrique scored the goals.
It was Schneider’s fifth shutout of the year and put the Devils above .500 for the first time since mid-November. They’re 30-29-11.

Ondrej Pavelec, G, Winnipeg Jets: Pavelec also had himself a good game, posting 38 saves on 40 shots against the Sharks. Blake Wheeler had two goals and an assist, while Mark Scheifele put up a goal and two helpers in the 5-2 win.
The Jets are now one point ahead of the Flames for the second Wild Card slot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They’re 35-23-12.

Jonathan Toews, C, Chicago Blackhawks: The Blackhawks made quite a statement last night against the Islanders, logging a big 4-1 victory at United Center. Toews managed two goals and two assists, while Corey Crawford put up 38 saves on 39 shots. Marian Hossa also bagged a pair of goals.
The Blackhawks are now 42-21-6 and looking quite effective.

Alexander Steen, LW, St. Louis Blues: Steen also had a multi-point night, posting two goals against the Flames. David Backes helped out on a goal and two assists, while goaltender Brian Elliott got the shutout on 25 saves in the 4-0 victory.
The Blues are on quite the hot streak right now, winning five of their past six games. They’re in first place in the Western Conference.
