There were just three games in the NHL last night, but the league is making up for that on 10 matchups this evening. Before we settle in for game-time, let’s check out some of the notable players who everyone’s talking about this morning.
Scott Darling, G, Chicago Blackhawks: We expected a tense battle between these two powerhouse teams last night at the Garden, and we certainly got one. Darling pitched a shutout in a physical 1-0 victory over the Rangers last night, logging 25 saves all together.
Brad Richards scored the game-winner in the third, while Cam Talbot had 30 saves on 31 shots on the other side.
The Blackhawks have won four straight games and sit at 43-21-6 on the season. The Rangers are 44-18-7.
Curtis McElhinney, G, Columbus Blue Jackets: Last night’s lone shootout result came between the Oilers and the Jackets. McElhinney emerged victorious in that one, logging 44 saves on 47 shots in a 4-3 victory. It was a career-high for him, and he stopped two more in the shootout itself.
The Jackets are now 31-35-4 on the season, ending a six-game skid in Edmonton.
Ryan Kesler, C, Anaheim Ducks: Looks like all three NHL games last night were close ones. Kesler scored the game-winning goal in overtime against the Kings last night, lifting the Ducks to a 3-2 victory at Honda Center.
Kesler has been great against L.A. this year, logging five goals and two assists in five games. The Ducks finish the regular-season series 4-0-1 and are 45-20-7 on the year. The Kings move to 34-22-14.
