We’ve got another great night of NHL action to look forward to this evening, as there are eight matchups on the schedule. While we’re waiting on those pucks to hit the ice, let’s check out some of the notable players around the league and see who’s in the news.
Anze Kopitar, C, Los Angeles Kings: Kopitar and the Kings got back on track last night, posting a 3-1 victory over the Devils. Kopiar himself posted a goal and two assists, while Marian Gaborik logged a pair of helpers himself.
This was the beginning of a big five-game road trip for the Kings, who will continue things tonight against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden in a Stanley Cup Finals rematch.
Corey Crawford, G, Chicago Blackhawks: Crawford was on point last night in goal for the Blackhawks against the Hurricanes. He stopped 43 of 44 shots to help Chicago to a 3-1 victory. Patrick Sharp held it down on the offensive end with a goal and an assist.
This was also a red-letter date for Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville. He logged career coaching win No. 750, which is third all-time behind Scotty Bowman and Al Arbour.
Jamie Benn, LW, Dallas Stars: Benn had a big hand in the Stars’ 4-3 win over the Sabres last night. He scored two of the team’s goals, and teammate Patrick Eaves chipped in with a goal and an assist of his own.
On the other side, Brian Gionta scored twice as well.
Dallas has won three straight games to get to 35-28-10, but trail Winnipeg by eight points for that hotly-contested second Wild Card slot.
David Jones, RW, Calgary Flames: The Flames were able to hang on last night and edge the Avalanche 3-2. Jones put up a goal and an assist, as did teammate Lance Bouma and Gabriel Landeskog on the other side.
This was a big win for the Flames, who are just two points ahead of the Kings for third place in the Pacific at 40-27-6.
