We’ve got a hefty 11-game set tonight in the NHL, so make sure to budget your time wisely to get the most hockey bang for your buck. In the meantime, let’s take today’s look at the headlines from around the league.
Claude Giroux, C, Philadelphia Flyers: The Flyers used four different players to score goals in their 4-1 win over the Blackhawks in Philly yesterday. Giroux got one, as did fellow star Wayne Simmonds.
Steve Mason made 34 saves in this one, which extended Philadelphia’s regular-season home winning streak against Chicago to 11 games. The Flyers are now 30-29-16 and nine points back of the second Wild Card.
Derek Roy, C, Edmonton Oilers: Roy got to play the hero last night against the Avalanche in Edmonton, bagging the game-winning goal on a power play for a 4-3 result. The Avs fought back from a three-goal deficit in this one, but couldn’t get over the hump.
Alex Tanguay had a goal and an assist for Colorado, who is now 33-28-12 on the season.
As for the Oilers, they’re 21-40-13 on the season.
Ales Hemsky, RW, Dallas Stars: Despite a two-goal effort from Deryk Engelland, the Stars were able to notch a 4-3 win over the Flames last night to get to 36-28-10 on the season.
Hemsky scored twice here, and Jamie Benn bagged a goal as well. Tyler Seguin had the winner in the shootout while Kari Lehtonen made 31 saves. He hasn’t lost a road game since January 27 (9-0-0).
