We’ve got a pretty active lineup of NHL action coming up tonight, with eight games on the schedule. While we’re waiting on those pucks to hit the ice, let’s check out some of the notable players and stats out there in the headlines.
Andrew Hammond, G, Ottawa Senators: It’s good to be a Senator these days, as the team keeps rolling toward a possible playoff berth. Hammond led the team to a 3-1 win over the Jets at MTS Centre yesterday, logging 35 saves on 36 shots.
Kyle Turris also had a strong game here, with a goal and an assist.
The Senators have been cooking recently, winning eight of their past 11 (8-1-2).
Jimmy Howard, G, Detroit Red Wings: Goals were at a premium last night in Detroit at Joe Louis Arena. The Red Wings got the last laugh, however, marking a 2-1 overtime victory over the visiting Rangers.
Howard put up 39 saves on 40 shots here, and Marek Zidlicky put in the game-winning goal in the extra period.
The Red Wings are now 36-15-11 on the season, following a 4-1-1 West road swing.
Gabriel Landeskog, LW, Colorado Avalanche: Landeskog put up a workman-like performance last night at Pepsi Center against the Pens. He managed a goal and two assists in the 3-1 victory.
Semyon Varlamov held down the defense on 28 saves, with 12 of those coming in the third period alone. The Avalanche are now 28-25-11 and have won six of their past nine games.
John Gibson, G, Anaheim Ducks: Gibson marks our third goalie in this morning’s headlines, and he earned his spot here with a 37-save performance last night against the Canadiens at Honda Center. The Ducks would win the game 3-1.
Beauchemin, Rakell and Fowler each scored for Anaheim, who move to 42-17-7 on the season. They’re 7-1-0 in their last eight apperances.
