The NHL regular season is getting finished up today, and we’ve got a whopping 15 matchups to look forward to. There’s still much to be decided when it comes to positioning in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, so today’s games will be very important. That said, let’s check in on some of the headline-grabbing players today.
Jaroslav Halak, G, New York Islanders: The Isles were able to take care of business last night against the Penguins, preventing Pittsburgh from clinching a playoff spot. Halak made 37 saves on 38 shots in the 3-1 victory, with John Tavares scoring the go-ahead tally in the third.
The Pens haven’t won a game in April yet and are sputtering in the late stages of the season. They can clinch today with a win (Sabres) or a Bruins loss.
New York, meanwhile is assured of at least third place in the Metropolitan Division.
David Savard, D, Columbus Blue Jackets: The Jackets got a victory over the aforementioned Sabres last night in the only other game, taking it 4-2. Savard finished with a pair of assists, while Nick Foligno, Matt Calvert, Cam Atkinson and Boone Jenner each had a goal.
The Jackets are red hot right now. They’re 11-0-1 in their past 12 games, which ties the longest points streak in franchise history. They won’t be going to the playoffs, though.
The Sabres, meanwhile, will finish 30th and pick no lower than second in the upcoming draft.
