Our first weekend of NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs action is officially in the books, and we’ve got three more games to look forward to this evening as the postseason moves on. Before we get into those games, let’s take our daily look at the headlines and see who’s in the news today.
John Tavares, C, New York Islanders: The Isles went up 3-1 on the Capitals yesterday, thanks to a huge overtime goal by Tavares. He lifted the team to a 2-1 win with his score, which came just a few seconds into the extra period.
It was the Islanders’ first overtime playoff win since all the way back in 1993.
Game 4 picks up again tomorrow.
Jonathan Toews, C, Chicago Blackhawks: Toews picked up a goal and an assist in yesterday’s game against the Predators, helping the team to a 4-2 victory in Game 3. Goalie Scott Darling made 35 saves in his first-ever playoff start, helping the team to a solid defensive effort.
Chicago put up three goals in the second period alone to go up 4-2.
Game 4 is tomorrow night at 9:30 PM ET.
Dale Weise, RW, Montreal Canadiens: The Canadiens owe a debt of gratitude to Weise this morning. He scored both of the team’s goals--one in the third to tie it up and one in overtime to win it--in their 2-1 victory over the Senators last night.
The victory gives the Canadiens a 3-0 edge in the series and leaves them just one game away from advancing.
Game 4--which could be the final one in this series--is Wednesday night at Canadian Tire Centre.
T.J. Brodie, D, Calgary Flames: Brodie was able to score once and gather an assist in yesterday’s game against the Canucks, helping Calgary to a 4-2 victory. Forward Sam Bennett scored the game-winner in his first NHL goal.
Calgary leads this one 2-1 and will play host in Game 4, which is tomorrow night at 10 PM ET.
