There wasn’t a whole lot going on in the NHL last night, but that will change this evening. There are 11 games to look forward to in the coming hours, so before we settle in let’s check out some of the notable players out there in the news.
Sergei Bobrovsky, G, Columbus Blue Jackets: Bobrovsky and the Jackets put up a dominant display last night against Toronto, recording a 5-0 victory. Five different players scored in front of Bobrovsky, who logged the shutout with 35 saves. It was his second of the season and 11th of his NHL career.
Columbus is 10-0-1 in their last 11 and within a game of the franchise points-streak record at 12.
Braden Holtby, G, Washington Capitals: Not to be outdone, Holtby got himself a shutout last night as well, recording 27 saves in a 3-0 victory over the Bruins. Nicklas Backstrom (two assists) and Marcus Johansson (goal; assist) had multi-point games.
Interestingly enough, the Caps shut out the Bruins all three times they played this year. They’re the first team to do that in a season series of at least three games in NHL history.
Jhonas Enroth, G, Dallas Stars: Let’s just go ahead and make it a goalie trifecta today, since all three games ended in shutouts. Enroth logged 19 saves in his win, a 4-0 decision against Anaheim. Jamie Benn put up three assists here and Patrick Eaves scored twice.
The loss prevents the Ducks from clinching the top seed in the Western Conference, at least for now. As for Benn, he’s tied with Tavares and Crosby for the league lead in points with 83.
