The Ducks look to shake off a tough loss against the Maple Leafs as they continue their Ontario road swing in Ottawa on Saturday.
The Anaheim Ducks backed their way into a playoff spot on Thursday night as they earned a point in an overtime loss against the Maple Leafs and while they locked up a berth it certainly wasn’t in the fashion they or anyone else expected. Anaheim has been very solid since a dreadful start to the year and while they are just 4-4-2 in their last 10 games and are three points back of the Kings for the Pacific division lead they are still very much in the mix and could come out of the regular season with home ice advantage in the first two rounds. Anaheim will likely send John Gibson to the crease as he will face off against Craig Anderson who is expected to get the nod for the Senators.
Ottawa has had a disappointing season and while a second half surge looked as though it could be in the cards once again, they haven’t been able to pull through and sit nine points back of the Flyers for the second wild card spot. Ottawa does have a decent team and some great young pieces to build around moving forward but something seems to be off about them this year and it starts with the blue line as they have been dreadful in their own zone and have allowed the second most goals in the NHL with 230 conceded in 75 games. The Sens will be back in the playoff race soon but this isn’t the year for them and this isn’t the game for them as the Ducks need a win here and get it on the road.
