The Senators look for their third victory of the season on Thursday as they host the Colorado Avalanche at the Canadian Tire Centre.
The Avalanche look to rebound after a tough loss in overtime against the Maple Leafs in their last outing but they head to Ottawa to take on a Senators team who has looked quite strong so far this season. Colorado is a year removed from finishing third overall in the league standings and while things are likely to regress a little bit they should still very much be in contention come playoff time where who knows what can happen. The Avs are led behind the bench by second year coach Patrick Roy who took home the Jack Adams award last season as the game’s top coach but it’ll be interesting to see how the Avs fair after facing some adversity which is something they didn’t see a lot of last season in terms of underperforming. Colorado sits at 1-2-1 through four games and they can pull up to the .500 mark with a win here.
The Senators look as though they’re on the right track to start the season in what is another year in transition for the one time Eastern Conference power house as they’re establishing a new identity without long time forward Jason Spezza. Ottawa has won two of its first three games to start the campaign and have looked quite impressive in doing so and they get another chance to show how good they can be in front of the home crowd here tonight. Despite not having a lineup littered with all-stars the Sens always find ways to stay competitive and even more so when playing on home ice and while the line scares me a bit as I think Colorado overall is the better team I think Ottawa will show up at home and give the fans something to cheer about if just for this one night.
