The Ottawa Senators welcome the Detroit Red Wings to town for a Thursday NHL tilt.
The surging Detroit Red Wings continue to be one of the hottest teams in the game with wins in seven of eight after upending Arizona 6-1 on Tuesday. Lawson Crouse scored in the third for the Coyotes to avoid the shutout with Darcy Kuemper giving up five goals on 21 shots before Hunter Miska stopped 7-8 in relief.
The balanced Red Wings offense saw scoring from Anthony Mantha, Dennis Cholowski, Michael Rasmussen, Luke Glendening, Andreas Athanasiou and Mike Green. Green and Frans Nielsen added a pair of helpers and Jimmy Howard recorded 23 stops to get the win for Detroit.
The Ottawa Senators failed in their bid for back to back wins with a 5-1 defeat at Florida on Sunday. Ottawa received a first period power play goal from Ryan Dzingel but Mike McKenna gave up five goals on 40 shots.
Aleksander Barkov spearheaded a five goal Panthers second with a pair of tallies with Jonathan Huberdeau, Troy Brouwer and Frank Vatrano. Mike Hoffman and Bogdan Kiselevich each posted two assists for Florida who received 34 saves from James Reimer.
Red Wings are 0-11 in their last 11 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game and Red Wings are 4-0 in their last 4 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game and Red Wings are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. a team with a losing record. Over is 5-0-2 in Senators last 7 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game and over is 9-1-2 in Senators last 12 following a loss of 3 or more goals and Senators are 1-9 in their last 10 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. Under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings in Ottawa and under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings and home team is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings.
I’m not going to overthink this one as I am going with the surging Red Wings…
