The Ottawa Senators have been in a rut all season long and right now it comes down to them not being able to play defense. When we've seen the Senators at their best under head coach Paul MacLean it has been when this team is playing great defensively and dominant on the penalty kill. Right now the Senators are allowing way too many goals and it's very difficult to win in this league if you can't keep the puck out of your net consistently. The return of Craig Anderson hasn't helped the Senators and last night they went back to Robin Lehner who struggled as well. Ottawa will find their way here and maybe a match up against a team like the low scoring Minnesota Wild is excatly what they need. Minnesota is a hockey club that has played extremely well to start the year but there still isn't much about them that scares you from a defensive standpoint. Zach Parise is a very good hockey player but he just isn't the type of guy that other teams are going to fear when he's coming down the wing. Josh Harding has been excellent in relief of Nicklas Backstrom and the Wild are at their best when they are playing these tight, low scoring hockey games. If the Senators play this right it might be what they need to get them going the rest of the way. MacLean knows what his team needs to do in order to start playing better hockey but sometimes it's difficult when your team is behind the eight ball all the time.
