The Senators return home looking to keep their faint playoff hopes alive as they face off against the Montreal Canadiens.
The Canadiens head into Ottawa on Saturday night coming off a 3-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres and will have a hefty dose of support in the stands in this one as they need to get a victory to pull even with the Senators in the playoff race. Montreal has been a train wreck to watch over the last few months and while they have turned it around a little bit over the last couple of weeks it looks to be a case of too little too late and they will likely fall short of the Eastern Conference playoffs. The Habs are a dreadful 14-19-3 on the road this season and will start Ben Scrivens tonight as they face off against an Ottawa side that is 19-12-5 at home and will probably counter with Craig Anderson despite playing in a back to back.
The Senators spoiled a great opportunity last night in Buffalo as they fell 3-1 to the lowly Sabres and took a huge hit in their pursuit of a wild card spot in the East as they are now seven points back of the Wings for the final spot. Ottawa has been a good team at home this season and will have to use that to their advantage here against a Montreal side that has been weak on the road, but as I said the Habs will have a lot of fanfare in the crowd tonight with the proximity being so close to Montreal and it could even play a factor in Montreal’s favour. In the end though, I think Ottawa is the better team by a hair and being at home I think they rebound after an ugly one last night.
