The Senators return home after getting pasted in New Jersey last night as they take on the Islanders at the Canadian Tire Centre.
The Islanders look to continue to build ground in the Metro division as they trail the Rangers by a single point for second place and in what can determine home ice in the playoffs that race is going to heat up as the season moves along. The Isles are 24-15-6 this season and head into tonight’s game with a 5-4-1 mark in their last 10 contests and have been a shade above average on the road this season. The Isles are likely to go with Jaroslav Halak in this one who is 11-8-4 this season with a very respectable 2.11 goals against average and he will likely face off against Andrew Hammond who will see time after Craig Anderson was shelled in New Jersey last night.
The Sens meanwhile head into Friday night looking to snap out of a 4-6 slump and regain some ground in the Atlantic division but after a tough outing last night and a road trip back home against a good Isles side it may be wishful thinking. The Sens sit in sixth place in the division and are four points back of the third seeded Red Wings and while they are very much in the playoff race thanks to a lackluster division they have to turn things up in a hurry and get back in the win column with some conviction. Unfortunately, the Isles are a very good team and set up well here in a game I think they skate away from victorious.
