The Senators look to stay red hot as they host the Rangers at the Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday afternoon.
The Rangers have been in the mix in the Eastern Conference for the better part of a decade and while they haven’t tasted glory since 1994 they have certainly established themselves as an Eastern Conference powerhouse. However, this year seems to be a bit different as the Blue Shirts haven’t played the way many thought they would under the new regime spearheaded by Alain Vigneault as they sit just four games above the .500 mark. If there is one bright spot for the Rangers this season is has been the play of backup goaltender Cam Talbot who has a 9-3 mark this season and has taken some starts away from perennial Vezina candidate Henrik Lundqvist in the process and he is slated to get the start today. The Rangers have been playing much better of late but catch the Senators playing their best hockey of the season in what should be a very exciting contest.
The Sens continued their strong play by coming back and forcing overtime against the Canadiens on Thursday night and while they ended up dropping the contest in overtime they secured a huge point that now has them within two points of the Leafs for fourth in the Atlantic. Ottawa is 7-1-2 in their last 10 contests and after the postseason looked bleak a month ago they are certainly right back in the mix and have a great shot at qualifying once again. The Sens haven’t played particularly well at home this season and typically have struggles with these afternoon games and while they’re getting a decent price I really like this spot for the Rangers. New York is a tough team to defend against and I think that remains Ottawa’s weakness and I expect Talbot to have another strong outing as he gets his 10th win of the year.
