The New York Rangers head into Ottawa looking for the upset victory in a show down of Eastern Conference rivals.
The Rangers look to improve their sluggish road record with a convincing win against the Ottawa Senators who are an impressive 7-4-2 mark on home ice so far this season. The Rangers came into the season as a team in limbo as prognosticators has them ranging from a wild card berth in some circles to a lottery draft pick in others and so far they have been inconsistent and have really lived up to their billing of being a tough team to handicap. The Blue Shirts are 5-1 in their last 6 meetings against Atlantic division rivals and are 10-4 in their last 14 games overall but they have been woeful in Ottawa with an 0-7 mark in their last 7 trips to the Canadian capital.
The Senators meanwhile have surprised a lot of people with how they have played so far this season and while they too have battled inconsistent play as evidenced by their 1-5 mark in their last 6 games following a win, they are still hitting above their weight right now. Ottawa made some serious moves in the offseason as they dealt both Mike Hoffman and Erik Karlsson with the latter making his return on Saturday night, but they have been decent in spite of the significant losses. Ottawa is 3-9 in their last 12 games against the Metro and are 2-7 in their last 9 against a team with a winning record and with the way the Rangers are playing right now this doesn’t look like a great spot.
The Rangers are 6-2 in their last 8 against a team with a losing record and 11-24 in their last 35 against the Eastern Conference while the Sens are 7-0 in their last 7 at home against New York while the home team is 13-3 in the last 16 matchups between these two sides. Ottawa has some solid trends here but the Rangers are a bit better and they show why on the road in this one.
