The Senators and Penguins renew hostilities in Ottawa on Thursday night with both teams looking to skate away with two points.

The Pittsburgh Penguins take to the road less than 24 hours after upending the Detroit Red Wings at home last night and they can complete the double header sweep with another strong performance on the road in Ottawa. The Penguins are in the mix to claim the Metro division but it is an incredibly tight race and they know that every single point is critical moving forward and while last night's win was great against a strong Red Wings team they need to refocus and shift their priority to planning for the Ottawa Senators. This is been a developing rivalry over the last couple of seasons as it was Matt Cooke a then member of the Penguins who controversially ended the season of Sens defenseman Erik Karlsson by stepping on his Achilles and with that bad blood combined with some playoff matchups we have seen a development of an unlikely yet very entertaining rivalry. The newest chapter takes place tonight as Thomas Greiss gets the call for the Pens and he will go up against Robin Lehner.

The Senators have had a disappointing season and are well back of the wild card spots in the Eastern Conference and things could get worse moving forward as some pieces could be on their way out as the trade deadline approaches. Ottawa has been an up and down team over the last handful of seasons and haven't been able to get back to their glory days of the mid 2000's when they were perennial playoff powers and were packing the Scotiabank Place and while they aren't too far off from a return to relevance it is still frustrating to be a Sens fan this season. However, for all of their shortcomings this season this is a great opportunity to take out their frustrations and play some inspired hockey as these two teams do not like each other at all and if the Sens were to win one game the rest of the season outside of playing the Toronto Maple Leafs it is this one here and while I am not a huge fan of Robin Lehner I think the team gets it done tonight against Greiss and a Pens team playing in a back to back.
