The Tampa Bay Lightning look to retake top spot in the Atlantic division with a vicgtory on the road in Ottawa on Thursday night.
The Tampa Bay Lightning have quietly pieced together a very strong season and after struggling to start the year they have rebounded very nicely sitting with a 37-22-4 record through 63 contests. The biggest plus for the Bolts this season has been their ability to avoid distraction and focus on the on ice product as the trade rumors surrounding Steven Stamkos have been very loud all season but the group, including Stamkos, has silenced those rumors and have played some great hockey. Tampa is 17-12-2 on the road this season and will send Ben Bishop to the crease to face off against one of his former teams in a game you can be sure he would love to win.
The Senators meanwhile lost a heartbreaker against the Blues in their last outing as they rallied back from a 3-0 deficit and while they did grab a single point they fell short in a shootout and failed to make up a ton of ground in the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Sens currently sit five points back of the Penguins for the final wild card spot in the East but they have played two more games than their cross-conference rivals and will have to get some pivotal victories down the stretch if they are going to slip back into the playoff race. Andrew Hammond filled in nicely in relief of Craig Anderson on Tuesday and he will have to do it again here if the Sens are going to get a victory and while Tampa is the better team in the standings you can’t count Ottawa out on home ice.
