NHL action comes to the Canadien Tire Centre where the Ottawa Senators host the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Toronto Maple Leafs need a confidence building hot streak and put their inconsistent play behind them Toronto has dropped four straight following a 3-2, overtime defeat at the Philadelphia Flyers where the team squandered a late 2-0 lead. The Maple Leafs received second period goals from Connor Brown and Frederik Gauthier with Frederik Andersen allowing three goals on 37 shots to get the loss.
The Flyers who have battled inconsistency at times did nothing offensively until the third period when Nolan Patrick scored at 1:33 with Wayne Simmonds netting the equalizer 1:52 later. Sean Couturier tallied just 18 seconds in to the extra session to secure the two points for Philadelphia who received 29 saves from Michal Neuvirth.
The Ottawa Senators are trying to get their season back on track and need to gain some momentum before the All Star break. Ottawa appeared to be heading in the right direction with wins in three of four before struggling in a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the visiting St. Louis Blues on Thursday. The Senators lone goal was a second period tally from Bobby Ryan with Craig Andersen allowing three goals on 36 shots.
St. Louis took a 3-0 lead in the second period on goals from Vladimir Tarasenko, Alex Pietrangelo and Brayden Schenn while Alexander Steen scored on the empty net with 1:18 remaining. Steen and Schenn also added assists to make a winner of Carter Hutton and his 20 stops.
Maple Leafs are 0-4 in their last 4 vs. Atlantic and Maple Leafs are 0-4 in their last 4 overall and Maple Leafs are 0-4 in their last 4 vs. Eastern Conference. Maple Leafs are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings and over is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings in Ottawa and Maple Leafs are 1-6 in the last 7 meetings in Ottawa.
For some reason the Senators have done very well versus the Maple Leafs and there is no reason to think that doesn’t happen again…
