The Maple Leafs look to play spoiler as they head into the Canadian Tire Centre to take on their arch rivals in the latest edition of the Battle of Ontario.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will not be going to the playoffs this season but if it is any consolation for them it could come in preventing the Senators from getting in as well and a victory on the road could go a long way in making sure that happens The Buds sit in last place in the NHL with a measly 55 points and are the front runners to land the top overall draft pick in the offseason which would be used to take Auston Matthews and would immediately upgrade the Leafs’ core. Toronto has known all season this was going to be a year of growing pains and while they haven’t been a good team they have been competitive in rivalry spots and you can be sure they will get up for this one in Ottawa.
The Senators are falling fast in the Eastern Conference wild card picture as they sit seven points behind the Wings for the final playoff spot and are coming off a 6-2 thrashing at the hands of the Florida Panthers. Ottawa failed to capitalize on some great opportunities and are now a long shot to make the playoffs with just 13 games remaining on their schedule, and while they have defied the odds before this just doesn’t seem like a group worthy of landing a postseason position. The Sens should be fired up for this one but with some former Senators making their return trip and Sparks getting the nod I actually really like Toronto here and I think with a full fanfare of Leafs support on the road they get a big victory.
