Winners of four of their last five games it appears that things are finally starting to come together for the Philadelphia Flyers. They started this little stretch with a victory over the lowly Edmonton Oilers, but have since followed it up with two wins over the Ottawa Senators and another over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Flyers have been playing excellent defense over this stretch, never allowing more than two goals through 65 minutes in any of the five games. The Flyers' 3-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets came in a shootout and now that the Flyers are starting to get their offense going if they can keep this type of play up Philadelphia will be in good shape. Philadelphia's defense still isn't the strongest but playing defense takes an entire team and it looks like Craig Berube has his forwards buying into this right now for the Flyers. Steve Mason has been a revelation in goal for Philadelphia this season and he should get the nod in this one on Thursday night against a Buffalo Sabres club that struggles to score as well.
The Buffalo Sabres are in the midst of an organizational change and that can always be difficult on the players that are on the ice. Buffalo isn't sure who they're going to bring in as new general manager at this point and Ted Nolan doesn't even know if he's going to remain behind the bench when that decision is made. All of these players are just trying to prove that they warrant a job in the NHL at this point and unfortuantely most of the guys on this club look like they don't. Ryan Miller has done everything he can possibly do this year to keep the Sabres afloat but Miller is just one man and isn't capable of that. Buffalo is on the road in Philadelpiha before returning home for three difficult games so this is one they've love to get. Miller is going to have to match Mason save for save in this one otherwise it could be another long night for the Sabres.
