The Philadelphia Flyers look to snap out of their ugly losing ways against the Pacific division as they host the Calgary Flames on Sunday.
The Flames head into Philadelphia looking to build on their 5-2 stretch that has them right back in the mix in the Pacific division as they face off against the Flyers that are a woeful 5-21 in their last 26 against the Pacific division and are 3-7 in their last 10 overall. The Flames haven’t had a great start from goaltender Brian Elliott after they landed him in the offseason to be their go to guy in the crease, but with only three wins so far and Chad Johnson stepping up as the better option it is safe to say Elliott has been a disappointment thus far. Calgary will look to get Elliott a win on Sunday as he will battle Anthony Stolarz who will get the start in place of Steve Mason on home ice.
The Flyers meanwhile are in a bit of a rut right now and have spoiled their strong start to the season and now they have to right the ship in the competitive Metro division that features some of the league’s best teams. Philly has a ton of offensive fire power but they will need to step up their game against a Flames side that is suddenly surging and is looking like a playoff contender, but on home ice the Flyers can feel confident against a low scoring Calgary side. Philly is a modest 1-6 in their last seven games on a days rest and that is where they find themselves on Sunday as they look to shake that ugly stat.
The Flames are 4-1 in their last five road games and 6-13 in their last 19 following a win while the Flyers are 5-2 in their last seven against a team with a losing record and 1-4 in their last five against a team with a winning road record. Calgary is playing well but Brian Elliott is not and he is expected to start here which makes me side with the home team.
