Thursday NHL action comes to the Wells Fargo Center where the Philadelphia Flyers collide with the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Carolina Hurricanes made a late run to stay in the postseason conversation but the team has dropped three of four after a 3-2 defeat at the Florida Panthers on Monday. Trevor van Riemsdyk and Derek Ryan scored for the Hurricanes with Scott Darling allowing three goals on 35 shots.

The Panthers received scoring off the sticks of MacKenzie Weegar, Evgenii Dadonov and Alexander Petrovic. Aleksander Barkov added a pair of helpers for Florida while Roberto Luongo improved to 16-11-2 with a 27 save performance.

The Philadelphia Flyers are looking to enter the playoffs with a full head of steam but a 5-4 loss at the NY Islanders ended their shot at a three game winning streak. Nolan Patrick scored twice for the Flyers with Wayne Simmonds and Claude Giroux also lighting the lamp with Petr Mrazek making 32-37 stops.

John Tavares and Mathew Barzal led the Islanders scoring spree with two tallies each with Anthony Beauvillier also adding a marker. Beauvillier and  Jordan Eberle added two assists each Thomas Greiss gave New York  27 saves.

Carolina are 8-1 in their last 9 Thursday games and Carolina are 4-11 in their last 15 vs. Metropolitan. Over is 8-0 in Philadelphia last 8 vs. Eastern Conference and over is 8-2 in Philadelphia last 10 overall and over is 21-7 in Philadelphia last 28 vs. Metropolitan. Over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.

For some reason these teams do a lot of damage on the scoreboard at the Wells Fargo Center and scoring is what Philadelphia does…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
