The Line: Philadelphia Flyers -150 / Carolina Hurricanes +140 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Philadelphia Flyers host the Carolina Hurricanes in an NHL hockey tilt on Sunday.
The Carolina Hurricanes have been eliminated from the postseason for awhile after a strong run ran out of gas. Instead of playing out the string the Hurricanes have put forth a decent effort knowing their year is basically over. The Canes gave the visiting St. Louis Blues a run for their money Saturday night before eventually falling 5-4 in a shootout. The Blues received goals from Patrik Berglund and Vladimir Tarasenko in the shootout while Scottie Upshaw, Ryan Reaves, Alexander Steen and Ivan Barbashev scored in regulation. Carte Hutton stopped 34 shots to help St. Louis sew up third in the Central Division. Jeff Skinner led the Hurricanes offense with two goals with Joakim Nordstrom and Klas Dahlbeck also finding the back of the net but Cam Ward’s 35 stops still wasn’t enough.
The Philadelphia Flyers are going to the golf course and not the postseason but to their credit they are still playing hard. The Flyers put on a show for the fans at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday with a 4-2 victory versus the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets. The balance Philadelphia attack saw goals from Jakub Voracek, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Ivan Provorov and Del Zotto. Steve Mason got the win as Philly ended a two game losing streak yet have now won five of seven overall heading to the last game of the regular season. He Blue Jackets are going to finish third in the Metropolitan but are slumping with six consecutive defeats. The CBJ received goals off the sticks of Boone Jenner and Seth Jones while Sergei Bobrovsky absorbed loss number four in a row.
The under is 3-0-1 in Hurricanes last 4 vs. Eastern Conference and the Hurricanes are 0-4 in their last 4 overall while the Hurricanes are 0-4 in their last 4 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 situation. The over is 4-0 in Flyers last 4 games playing on 0 days rest and the over is 3-0-1 in Flyers last 4 Sunday games while the Flyers are 5-0 in their last 5 home games. The over is 3-0-1 in the last 4 meetings in Philadelphia and the over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings while the home team is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings.
Neither team has anything to play for but I’m hoping the Flyers put on a show…
