The Columbus Blue Jackets look for a big road win over the Philadelphia Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center.
The banged up and struggling Columbus Blue Jackets head to the City of Brotherly Love looking to get in the win column. The Blue Jackets are going through a tough run where they have dropped nine in a row following a a 4-2 loss at Washington on Tuesday. The Capitals rode a three goal first period burst to get the victory with Alex Ovechkin and Marcus Johansson each lighting the lamp twice while Andre Burakovsky and Nicklas Backstrom added two helpers apiece. Braden Holby recorded 24 saves to help extend the Caps winning streak to three games. The Blue Jackets received goals from David Savard and Cam Atkinson with a 32 stop effort from Curtis McElhinney not enough to prevent a 9th straight loss.
The Philadelphia Flyers look to stay hot at the Wells Fargo Center when the Blue Jackets come to town Friday. The Flyers are looking to build on the momentum of a 4-3 victory over visiting Colorado that earned the club win number six in a row on home ice. This looked like a laugher with Philly leading 4-0 heading in to the final 20 minutes but the Avalanche made the home team sweat with a three goal third. The Avs received tallies from Alex Tanguay, Max Talbot and Zach Redmond with Reto Berra recording 23 saves which couldn't prevent Colorado from dropping their 4th contest in five outings. Captain Claude Giroux scored twice for Philadelphia with Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds also finding the back of the net whil Jakub Voracek added a trio of helpers to support Steve Mason's 36 stop effort.
The Blue Jackets are 0-7 in their last 7 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game while the under is 5-0 in Blue Jackets last 5 Friday games with the Blue Jackets going 0-4 in their last 4 vs. Metropolitan. For Philadelphia the Flyers are 5-0 in their last 5 home games and the under is 4-0 in Flyers last 4 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game while the Flyers are 2-8 in their last 10 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game. Head to head the home team is 8-1 in the last 9 meetings while the Blue Jackets are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings in Philadelphia with the over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings. The trends favor Philadelphia and given how banged up Columbus is I do favor them but I need to see goalies and the price tag on this one so check back Friday afternoon for an update...
