The Line: Philadelphia Flyers -115 / Columbus Blue Jackets +100 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Wells Fargo Center and the Philadelphia Flyers host the Columbus Blue Jackets in a Thursday NHL tilt.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have been red hot with five consecutive wins where both their scoring and defense have been performing at a high level. Columbus comes in off of a 5-2 victory versus Montreal where Brendan Gallagher and Jonathan Drouin scored for the Canadiens and Charlie Lindgren allowed all five goals on 25 shots.
The balanced Blue Jackets offense feature five different goal scorers with Nick Foligno, Alexander Wennberg, Seth Jones, Boone Jenner and Ian Cole all lighting the lamp. Wennberg also logged three assists and Sergei Bobrovsky recorded 38 stops to pick up the win.
With the postseason not that far away, the Philadelphia Flyers have picked the wrong time to go in to a tailspin. Philadelphia has lost six of seven following a 3-2 defeat to the Vegas Golden Knights where the struggling offense mustered goals from Wayne Simmonds and Claude Giroux.
The Golden Knights received power play goals off the sticks of Erik Haula and William Karlsson before Ryan Carpenter netted the winner with 2:40 remaining. Marc-Andre Fleury picked up the win for Vegas with 38 saves while Petr Mrazek absorbed the loss with three goals given up on 29 shots.
Blue Jackets are 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win and Blue Jackets are 5-0 in their last 5 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game and Blue Jackets are 5-0 in their last 5 overall. Flyers are 0-5 in their last 5 vs. Eastern Conference and Flyers are 1-6 in their last 7 overall and Flyers are 1-5 in their last 6 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. Over is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings in Philadelphia and under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and home team is 20-7-1 in the last 28 meetings.
I can’t advocate backing Philadelphia with these teams heading in different directions but if the Flyers are going to win one this might be the spot….
