The Flyers look to rebound after getting blanked by the Oilers on Thursday night while the Blue Jackets look to build off of their win against them last night.
The Columbus Blue Jackets look to add to their offensive output from last night’s 6-3 win against the Edmonton Oilers on home ice as they head into Philadelphia to face a Flyers side desperate for a win. Columbus has fallen well short of expectations this season after being a preseason dark horse in the Eastern Conference and while they have played much better under John Tortorella there really wasn’t anywhere to go but up for them after a dismal start that basically had them out of the playoff race since the turn of November. The Jackets are third to last in the Eastern Conference sitting up on the Sabres and Leafs but are a very underwhelming minus 26 in goal differential and are 13-18-2 on the road this season.
The Flyers meanwhile head into tonight’s game coming off one of their worst outings of the season as they couldn’t muster a single goal against the lowly Edmonton Oilers on home ice and missed a big opportunity to make up ground on the Penguins for the final wild card spot in the East. Philly does have a decent 16-9-7 record on home ice this season but they too have struggled keeping pucks of their net this season and will need to tighten up down the stretch if they’re going to have a shot at getting in as there are plenty of solid hockey teams in the mix. In the end, this game is crucial for the Flyers and if they drop back to back games against the Oilers and Blue Jackets then frankly they don’t deserve to get into the playoffs. Philly wins no trouble.
